Arianrhod

Welsh Goddess of the Silver Wheel

Oil on board. 16x20 in. £750.

Arianrhod is the Welsh Goddess of the Moon and Stars, though in Her legend She is referred to as ‘Lady of the Silver Wheel’. She gives birth to two Sons (Suns) after stepping over a magicians rod to prove Her virginity. One is healthy, handsome and strong, the other is a malformed blob and monstrous to behold. One becomes a sea spirit and the other becomes a hero.

In this painting I have depicted Arianrhod as a young woman in her early 20s crowned with the Corona Borealis, creating her Suns between Her hands. As the Goddess of the Stars (which are Suns) She has the ability to form new life on a cosmic level.

As a nod to her Welsh origin the coastline of Wales is formed within Her hair, daffodils bloom all around Her and the Welsh dragon sits by Her side.
